Jorge Ian Guajardo

Hello, and welcome to my online portfolio. My name is Jorge Ian Guajardo, and I am a journalist and sports reporter.

I am a bilingual sports journalist and researcher who thrives while telling stories, and who also makes a profound effort to engage in my community. My career has meandered through a blend

of professional broadcasting experience, academic research, and military service, sharpening my

ability to lead, adapt, and connect with diverse audiences. From producing live sports coverage

and podcasts at 600 ESPN El Paso to managing a newsroom team at the University of Texas El

Paso, I’ve built a foundation in reporting that blends accuracy, narrative depth, and cultural

relevance.

Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree in sports journalism at Arizona State University. I

serve as a Graduate Research Assistant with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where I focus

on healthcare access impacting Latino and Native communities in the Southwest. This work

aligns with my broader commitment to using journalism as a tool for equity and representation,

bringing both English and Spanish voices into essential conversations of equity. My unique

combination of sports media expertise, research skills, and leadership experience, as a U.S. Navy

veteran, enables me to approach storytelling with discipline, empathy, and a deep understanding

of how to reach and serve underrepresented communities.
